About Department

The P.G. Department of Odia, Berhampur University has the unique distinction of being the first Post Graduate Odia department to be visualised ever in Odisha at the University level. Started in 1968 with 16 students and now the intake capacity of 32 students at the P.G. level every year. It has introduced M .Phil Course from 1977 which now invites 16 students per year.

The courses of study of both M.A and M .Phil are revised once in every three years, diversified and made up to date. Department provides specialised teaching in Bhanja literature, modern literature, folk lore and study of Odia language. The diverse fields which the M.A and M. Phil courses now include are folk lore, theory of literature, editing and translation.

The Department has been active in its research activities since its inception. The teachers of the department supervise dissertation for Ph.D, D.Litt and undertake research projects. At present there are 4 number of U.G.C and University research scholars in the department.

About Course Programme

The Department of Odia was established in 1968 with two years Master Degree Course with M.Phil and Ph.D. in Odia under the supervision of the faculty members. The Post Graduate curriculum is reoriented in consonance with modern development as per the guidelines of U.G.C. Folklore study, Tribal Study and Southern Odisha Cultural study research for the department are the sub-branches of our department.

How to Enter into the Course Programme

For admission into M.A. Course the applicant must have Passed +3 Arts Examination securing given percentage of marks with Odia as the Pass/Hons subject as prescribed in the prospectus from time to time.

There are Contact classes, Two classes reserved for Departmental Seminar in every week.

How to Enter into the Course Programme

For admission into M. Phil in Odia programme the applicant must be

Ph.D.

About Course Programme

A Scholar Registers his/her name for Ph.D Programme under the supervision of a eligible guide further he/she enters to the programme through an entrance test conducted by the University or completed M.Phil from the University after 2010. The Department also offers research programme leading to Ph. D degree. The major thrust area of research are Folklore study, Tribal Study and Southern Odisha Cultural study. One has to register his/her name for Ph.D . one can submit his/her Dissertation within 2-5 years from the date of registration.

D.Litt.

About Course Programme

Only Ph.D holder with a minimum three research publications of a concerned subject can register their names for D.Litt programmes in the same subjects under a guide/ independently. The other regular criteria is as per the guideline as laid down by the University.

Dr.Sadananda Nayak Reader in Odia Berhampur University have complited M.A., M.Phil in Odia from Utkal University Bani Vihar and complited Ph.D and D.Litt. degree in Odia from Berhampur University also passed M.A., and M.Phil. in Linguistic.Prior to join in this University Lecturer in Odia in 1997 I was O.E.S. in Govertment of Odisha. I promote to Reader in Odia in 2007 and continuing. My spelisations are Linguistic, Folklore, Medieval Odia Literature and odia Drama. I have produced Five Ph.D Scholars One D.Litt. Scholar and Thirty Six m.hil Scholars. I have written Seven literary riticism books, Two text Books and more than Twenty Research Articles in Various reputed journals of Odisha.

Dr. Satapathy is a distinguished faculty in the field of Drama and Modern Literature. He has been conferred with his Ph.D degree by Visva Varati University, Shantiniketan during 2007. Besides his Ph.D degree, he has also completed his Master of Odia from Utkal University and Master of Socio Linguistics from University of Culture, Bhubaneswar during 2011. Apart from this, he has also completed M.Phil from Ravenshaw University during 2005. A commitment to excellence in teaching is the hallmark of his life. His superior academic credentials have put him in a status as exemplary and as an actor, he received many talent certificates from Saswati Natya Samaroha, Trinetra Group, All India Multi Lingual Dramatic Competition and other reputed institutes. He has also featured in various Doordarshan Television programmes like Utkal Bharati and Sahitya Surabhi. He has published 22 research articles in different journals and magazines of Regional and National repute. His extraordinary methodology and ability to teach is well accredited. He has innate curiosity and his passion for drama and modern literature is unique in style. He has engaged number of students in cutting edge research in drama and modern literature. He has participated and presented 28 papers in various Regional and National repute conferences, Seminars, Symposia and Workshops. He has also published 06 books to his credit. Presently 03 scholars are pursuing their Ph.D degrees under his able guidance and have also produced 06 M.Phil scholars. Dr. Satapathy has also completed 15 years in Teaching along with research experience. At present, Dr. Satapathy is working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Odia, Berhampur University. Prior to joining in the university, he was working as Lecturer in Ekalabya Model College, Jajpur.

Dr.Sameer Bhoi holds M.A., M.Phil and Ph.D degree in Odia from Sambalpur university and B.Ed. degree from Guru Ghasi Das University, Bilaspur(Chhatishgarh) with UGC NET and Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship UGC(RGNF UGC). He has also qualified junior Lectureship examination under Odisha Public Service Commission. He Joined the Department in 3rd August 2011 as a Lecturer. He has Five years of Research and teaching Experience of Department. He has Guided Seventh M.Plil students and Guiding Doctoral Students. He is the members of Odisha Loka Sahitya Gabeshana Parishad(OLSGP),Kalinga Sahitya Samaja, Sabara Srikshetra Samachara(KOATS OF KORAPUT). He was serving as a Assistant Superintendent of Mahendra Tanaya Ladies Hostel Berhampur University. Student Union Vice-President advisor of Lingaraj Law College Berhampur. His area of research is Folklore Study and Tribal Culture.

Professor Prasan Kumar Swain holds a Ph.D. degree from Utkal University. After serving in different collages of odisha since 1989 as lecturer , he joined at Berhampur University as Sr. lecturer. Subsequently, he became Reader in 2002 and Professor in 2012. He has guided 7 Ph.D. and 37 M.Phil. Scholars. He has authored 8 research books ; edited 20 books and published more than 60 research publications to his credit. He was serving as superintendent of different P.G Hostes,Coordinator, University Cultural Society , now acting as coordinator , NSS Bureau , Berhampur University, member , BOS , BU ; member, Odisha Sahitya Akademi , Bhubaneswar.
