The Distance Education Centre of Berhampur University, named after the late Raja Saheb Harihara Mardaraj of the erstwhile estate of Khallikote in the district of Ganjam came into existence in the year 1987 with the aim to provide educational facilities, particularly to those who cannot pursue regular courses due to financial or other constraints. The Distance Education Centre now offers a total of 21 (Twenty-one) Under-Graduate/Post-Graduate & Professional Courses.
The students of MBA course are being supplied study materials in shape of modules.
The Centre has made provisions for contact classes for students offering Post-Graduate and Professional Courses and for Under-graduate courses with minimum students strength of 25 (Twenty-five) in a particular subject. There is also provision for Hostel accommodation for the outside students of DE Mode during the Contact Programme and examinations.
It is a matter of great satisfaction that the admission strength in all course offered by the Distance Education Centre has gone up to a considerable height. The statement narrated subject-wise projects the strength.
The Director of the Centre have provided dynamic leadership in strengthening the Distance Education Centre. They have also taken the initiative to introduce new courses. These steps have contributed to strengthen the financial base of the Centre as well as catered to the needs of the industries and different organizations.
